For three weekends in
September of 1999, Dwight Hostetler was very kind to share with me, his vast collection of
postcards from Somerset County. Dwight has been collecting for over 25 years and can
boast over 1,200 individual cards.
It was a difficult task to decide what should be photographed for this on-line gallery.
However, after carefully going through the whole collection, I think I've picked
the ones that best represent our County's past.
I believe there's something here that will interest almost anyone from the area. You
will probably see things you won't even believe. For example: street-cable cars in
Meyersdale and Windber, the blizzard of 1936, the many railway stations, the things that
have changed and the things that just aren't there anymore, like the towns of Unamis and
Somerfield.
